As you can see in the feature picture, I changed my “under-cover-avatar” slightly. Yes, it’s a vampire and no I am not getting involved in this bloodlines bullshit pestering people with unsolicited bite requests to join the Second Life bloodlines.
I will get into fantasy role play which involves vampires (also referred to as online rpg). The avi is actually not that good really and will have to work on it a little bit. But for visiting a role playing game region it is more than sufficient. But first of all, let me explain why I am eager to get into vampire games.
What is Vampire Academy?.
Vampire Academy is an American best-selling series of six young-adult paranormal romance novels by author Richelle Mead. It tells the story of Rose Hathaway, a seventeen/eighteen-year-old Dhampir girl, who is training to be a bodyguard for her Moroi best friend, Vasilisa “Lissa” Dragomir. In the process of learning how to defeat Strigoi (the evil undead vampires) in St. Vladimir’s Academy, Rose finds herself caught in a forbidden love with her instructor, Dimitri Belikov, while having an unbreakable bond with Lissa also called blood sisters. In early 2014 the movie will come to our cinemas and it’s expected to have a similar success like Twilight or the Vampire Diaries.
Role Playing Games in Second Life
Whenever a movie or a series of novellas become very popular, we see an increase in role playing regions in Second Life. This was the case when Games of Thrones, based on the novels, “a Song of Ice and Fire” by George R. R. Martin or the evergreen role playing game “the Gorean Saga”.
Vampire 3D Games in Second Life
Vampire games are actually amongst the most popular and most hated online RPG (role playing games) in Second Life. There are numerous regions offering a platform for vampire and other fantasy role play. Very often the regions mix the different fantasy genres or create their own storyline and environment. Most of them are integrated into some kind of Post-Apocalyptic dark Urban Role play.
The City of lost Souls
The first region I visited featuring an RPG which involves vampires was the “the city of the lost souls”. When arriving you are prompted to read the rules for everybody who plays there to be on the same planet, so to speak. You also get a combat meter which will make your avatar vulnerable to attacks.
There are several things I really liked about the place:
- The City is very well designed. Unfortunately I did not have time to make many screenshots, but I will get you some another day and put them up here in gallery format.
- You must register a role to start with. Unlike their Gorean pendants you can just make up something. There is a certain set of clearly defined roles available to choose from which all have their strengths and weaknesses.
- The role play seems to be of very high level. I watched some scenes and read some very detailed emotes and paragraphs (also referred to as para-roleplay).
- One of the players noticed that I am a new player and immediately offered his help in IM.
Overall it was very refreshing to see this and will shortly go back and report in more detail. For you to get ready when the next big role playing game in Second life is about to take off:
If you are not a Second Life resident yet but you would like to try the vampire games in Second Life, click on the banner below this post and register for free. The software also called Second Life viewer is free to download and at the starting point you may also get some pre-designed free vampire avatars.
Try! I think it will be a lot of fun.
