It’s two things:
They only sell outdated crap shit, and they are pickup places where predators try to lure noobs into having sex with them.
My advice is to stay away from them. The few things you have in your Welcome Pack in your inventory are a lot better than those crap marketing items.
When you get started, you don’t have much money or no money at all, you need to find a way to get some better stuff for little or no money.
There is a solution.
After you had your first cheap customer (as a sex worker), reinvest the money in groups.
I was lucky.
Ronny gave me a few hundred Lindens as a gift. He didn’t ask for any gratification. Having said that, he gave me a few hints that he would like to date me.
Next.
There are a few brands in Second Life that offer their “old stuff”, which is not selling anymore, as group gifts. The gifts are quality outfits made for most bodies, including your free legacy body.
The best for your new profession, you find at a shop called “Scandalize.” You join the group for 90 L$, and you get access to more than 100 sexy outfits.
That is good value for money.
I did exactly that and got about 20 outfits I like.
Easy peasy.
