Laura | The From Scratch to Top Challenge
“In a world where everybody can be pretty, investing a few thousand Linden-Dollar, being unique is king.”
Said Sven.
Sven is a long-standing (pun intended) regular customer of Candy’s. He pumbed into me (again pun intended) in the ghetto.
I was standing in the street at my usual corner when he approached me. Of course, I told him that I am another version of Candy, everything else would feel like deceiving him.

“You like what you see, or do you prefer Candy’s look?” I asked curiously. I was sure he would vote for Laura.
His answer made me think:
“You are amazing, but I do prefer Candy, because she is unique. In a world where everybody can be pretty, investing a few thousand Linden-Dollar, being unique is king.”
He booked me anyway. He knows I am a good fuck in any of my versions.

But what he said made me think. I was not top-notch yet. I was replaceable. Average. Not unique, not special.
Roger would argue that, I know.
Another guy I met on the street said something similar:
“You are beautiful and sexy, but the skin looks way too plain and flawless, and you need to sort the hair base as well.”
Bamm, another slap in the face. Another reality check. Ok, back to the drawing board then. Or back to LAQ, actually.
I inspected the different skins available thoroughly and compared them with mine. They were right: The skin that came with the free Elle mesh head was way too plain and flawless. In fact, compared to those new UHD (Ultra High Definition) skins, I look like a brown painted porcelain doll.
I liked a skin called “Karin”, and bought it straight away. It wasn’t cheap, but I had a few good fucks the night before, and a few thousand L$ left on my account. So what the heck.
But what the fuck?
I had a hard time applying that skin to my head. It looked as if I had scrambled my mesh head. It was horrible, and no matter what I tried, I could’t get it right.
Suddenly, the enlightenment came. I realized that to wear a UHD skin, I need a UHD head. I also found out at last (silly me) that there are two types of heads they give out for free at LAQ.
One that comes with free shape and skin (that’s the one I got initially), and another plain UHD head with nothing else. You must buy and apply a shape and skin – their shapes and skins.
What a sneaky yet genius marketing trick!
I also got a hairbase and new hair from LAQ, perfectly fitted for their shape and head.
Finally, I was able to apply everything easily and in just a few minutes.
Am I a top-notch Second Life avatar now?
Roger was the first to see me in my upgraded look. His reaction could be described as “jaw-dropping amazement”.
He said he had to get used to “his Laura” looking different now, but the result of that transition had left him speechless.
Any criticism and suggestions are appreciated.
